Movie mission accomplished: Flight of the Navigator

I mentioned before that the husband and I always make each other watch movies from our childhood when we find them on TV. I had been eagerly awaiting the moment that Flight of the Navigator popped up on TV. I was sure it would eventually since we’ve been seeing a lot of 1980s movies on TV lately.

And in April, it did!

navigatorFlight of the Navigator is a Disney movie that came out in 1986. The main character, David, goes outside to look for his little brother, but he falls into a ravine and is knocked out. When he comes to, David climbs out of the ravine and goes home–only when he gets there, someone else lives in the house and his family is gone.

It turns out that David has been missing for eight years. In that time, his family has moved and his little brother has grown up. But David is still 12 years old, just as he was in 1978 when he disappeared.

At the same time that David suddenly reappears in his old neighborhood, a strange spaceship is found crashed nearby.

It’s a fun movie, great for kids who love aliens and spaceships. What did the husband think of it? Somehow, he missed seeing this as a kid, but he really liked it now. He must have, since he watched it at least five times this past month while he was home on medical leave (he had shoulder surgery, doing fine and went back to work this week!).
