Friday Links

I came across a link to this post by author Claire Hennessy on Twitter and agreed with what she said: YA: not quite brand-new. I have heard a lot of people say there was no YA years ago, which isn’t true. There was YA, but yes, there probably wasn’t as much as there is now and it wasn’t always so easy to find. YA often got stuffed into the children’s section of stores or libraries, or else was hidden among the adult section. I remember as a teen having to go back and forth between the children and adult sections at my local library to find the YA books I wanted to read. Now, my library has a dedicated teen section that’s set apart from the children and adult. I love this because as a teen I wanted a YA section so I could find those books much easier! As Claire Hennessy points out, YA is not a new thing and has been around for a long time, even if the label wasn’t always applied to them. Yes, there has been a recent surge in this category and that’s led to them being more visible, but that doesn’t make the whole category an entirely new thing.

My own opinion: It’s great that YA now stands out separate from children and adult books and that there are so many options for readers today. There are some great books listed on Claire’s post. Definitely read the books that have been around for a long time as well as the newer stuff.

I got two great reviews this week for two of my books, so I wanted to share them with you!

A big thanks to Janae at Janae’s Book Obession for reading and reviewing Submerging! You can see her review here. She also read Surfacing earlier this year if you want to take a look at that review.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find this review of The Boyfriend Thief from Ariel Avalon!

Thank you to everyone who has left reviews of my books on Amazon, B&N, iTunes, Goodreads, and blogs! I also wanted to remind you that if you are a book blogger and are interested in getting a review copy of any of my books, you can always email me and let me know you’re interested. I have VERY LIMITED copies of my print books, so I may not be able to fulfill those requests. I’m always happy to send copies of my ebooks in any format you’d like, but I can’t send ebooks of Troy High or Something to Blog About.

Have a great Friday! Hurricane Sandy is passing by us this weekend and I’m hoping it won’t bring too much trouble, but be careful if you’re in the path!
