Happy Halloween

I love dressing up, but my costumes are usually last minute. That’s true this year. I threw on a red shirt, khaki pants, and the Winnie the Pooh hat I got at Disney World twelve years ago.

I considered dressing up as a giant hot dog like Avery has to in my book The Boyfriend Thief, but well, I didn’t know where I’d get a giant hot dog costume at the last minute. Hot Dogs R Us?

Anyway, I ended up needing a very simple costume that I could easily remove for going in and out of the veterinarian’s office today. A few weeks ago, we took in my father-in-law’s dog Zoey. She’s the sweetest little black and white Shih Tzu. She’s been blind in one eye since she was a puppy. Someone else had her then and they had said she was attacked by another dog when she was young, which left her blind in her right eye. This past week I noticed that her blind eye hadn’t been looking quite right, so I took her to the vet Saturday morning. The vet said the eye was deteriorating and starting to get infected, so it was best just to go ahead and remove it.

I had to drop her off this morning for surgery. Poor little thing was so scared and shaking. I’ll be happy when I go pick her up this afternoon and can take her back home!
