Things this week

I think I’m drowning in tomatoes. We started growing tomatoes a few years ago and so far, we’re on this every other year cycle where we get tons of tomatoes, but the years in between we get almost none. This is a “ton of tomatoes” year. It’s a good thing I love tomatoes because I’ve been eating them every day (along with the last of our thousand cucumbers crop, apparently we were GREAT farmers this year!). I’ve also canned a few jars of tomatoes, blanched and frozen a few bags, given some away, and I still have two gallon sized buckets full of grape tomatoes and a box top full of big and little tomatoes. Plus all the tomatoes on the vines still waiting to come off. I told The Husband we should have set up a stand at the farmer’s market this year with all the tomatoes and cucumbers we had. Clearly, we are PROFESSIONALS now (even though we still don’t know what we’re doing).

Speaking of growing things, over a year ago I did an update on the pineapple we planted in April 2009. I need to take a new picture because the thing went crazy during this past winter while growing inside the house. It’s huge and has a few new plants sprouting off of it. But the biggest news: WE FINALLY HAVE A PINEAPPLE! A real, actual pineapple. It’s a baby one right now, just starting to grow up from the center plant. Now we keep checking it every day to see how much it’s grown. This would be about right for getting an actual fruit from it because everything we read says it takes at least 2 years to grow the pineapple. We also have a second plant that we planted last year and we plan to keep planting one each year. When we eat this fruit, we’ll plant the top of it to grow a new one.

If you haven’t read The Boyfriend Thief yet and still need some convincing, go check out Lauren’s review of it! Also, I noticed recently that The Boyfriend Thief is now available through the iTunes store, so you can also purchase it from there instead of Amazon or B&N.

On the subject of ebooks, there are some awesome new releases this week that I can’t wait to read! Katie Klein’s newest, Vendetta, is out now. It’s the sequel to her book The Guardian, which I loved, so I can’t wait to find out what happens in Vendetta!

Also, N. M. Martinez just released her first ebook, Ruin. I’ve heard about this one during her development of it and I’m excited to get a chance to read it. It sounds so good!

My to-read list keeps getting longer and longer. 🙂

We like to ignore the rules about needing to be in a tropical climate to grow tropical fruit. 😉 But we were getting to the point that we thought it would never actually fruit! Then a few days ago Husband checked and SURPRISE! Baby pineapple! 🙂

Mmm! I could eat tomatoes everyday. And cucumbers for that matter. Glad you had such a great crop! And I just found out about your books from Danyelle Leafty. I can’t wait to read them. 😀
