First reading

So yesterday was my very first reading/booksigning, at the UNC-Chapel Hill campus bookstore, The Bull’s Head. (Above is the sign that they posted in their store. They gave me one of them to keep for my scrapbook!) It went great! I was really nervous during the ride there and told The Husband that I would probably start stuttering. I told him he had to tell me if I sounded stupid. We got the campus at 3:00pm, but we had missed seeing the visitors’ parking lot before entering the campus, so we ended up parking at the hospital and walking back to the bookstore. It was a long walk! We got to the bookstore right at 3:30, so thankfully we were right on time. Although winded and tired.

Thanks to everyone who came to see me! A creative writing teacher from UNC was there and so were a few aspiring writers. I also got to meet the girl who sent me my very first fan letter last month. Her mom runs the bookstore and she had gotten an advanced copy and wrote to tell me how much she loved it. And the staff of The Bull’s Head were all so nice and told me I did great. I read three different scenes from the book–one of the first blog entries, a scene toward the middle of the book, and a scene toward the end. And I talked a bit about how I came up with the idea for the book and the characters, and talked a bit more in-depth about each scene after I had read it. Everyone asked such great questions. It was a lot of fun and I hope I have the chance to go back there again for my second book!

I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I would be. Once I started talking, I relaxed a lot and I don’t think I had a problem stuttering.

Here I am after, relieved that everything went well!

My next appearance will be at The Book Depot in Kinston, NC, on March 8, from 1:00-3:00pm. If you’re in or near Kinston, I hope you’ll stop by! (The Book Depot is located inside the Vernon Park Mall on Vernon Avenue, right outside Belk.)

I used to live near that hospital and haunt the Bull’s Head. There’s a short cut! I’m glad you had a good reading!

    Something to Blog About

Today I had nothing to do so (as I always do) I went to Barnes and Noble and bought your book. Wow! I didnt know what I was in for. Ilove how both Libby and Seth liked each other but didn’t admit it. I also liked how you added some narsasistic characters in your book like Angel. Oh, and by the way, all of those book reviews and everything paid off because you made a GREAT book. Out of ten, I would rate something to blog about a 100!
