Shana the Full-Time Writer

I had a blog post in mind yesterday that I was going to write. But then I didn’t, and I didn’t write down any notes about what it was about…So now I’ve forgotten it. Hmm. I doubt it was about how I’ve been eating too many Oreos for breakfast lately, although mmm Oreos. You can probably tell I’m hungry. I haven’t eaten my breakfast Oreos yet.

I’ve announced it in a few places, but not everywhere, so here it is: I was laid off from my full-time graphic design job a month ago. Which means I’ve been a full-time writer for the last four weeks. Which explains the breakfast Oreos. Apparently, Shana the full-time writer doesn’t eat a balanced breakfast. That’s one of the things I’ve learned about myself in the past month.

Another thing I’ve learned? Shana the full-time writer also doesn’t sleep much. Not by choice. I just keep having problems falling asleep and staying asleep. Which explains why I feel pretty loopy these days!

Shana the full-time writer also likes to watch Food Network. Which makes me even hungrier. Send some of that food my way, Pioneer Woman!

But I’m enjoying being a full-time writer. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do, so this is my chance. I’m getting SO much done, you guys. It’s amazing how much more I can do when I don’t have that pesky other job thing taking up valuable time. 😉  So hopefully being a full-time writer means I can get more books out since I have more time to work on them. Right now, I’m about to start revisions on the last Swans Landing book, and I’m also working on a few other books in various stages of the process. Who needs sleep and proper diet anyway?

Of course, being a full-time writer also means I’m a lot more worried about those other pesky things like bills. Blech. Bills make me hungry. Those Breakfast Oreos are calling my name.

If you don’t follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you missed the announcement yesterday: Audible.com is producing the audiobook versions of The Boyfriend Thief, Surfacing, Submerging, AND Overtime! Woohoo!! It was totally unexpected, but I’m VERY excited about it. I’ve already heard the narrator auditions for The Boyfriend Thief and Surfacing, and they are AWESOME. I’ll keep you guys up to date on developments on the audio versions!

Isn’t it fantastic writing full time? 🙂 My experience has worked quite the same as yours though. I’m finding I’m getting a lot less writing done than I thought I would with all this time!

I love saying I’m a full-time writer! 😀 It is still hard to actually get the writing done though. It’s so easy to be distracted or lazy when I’m at home. I have to really push myself to focus!
