Ready, Set…

We’re only three days away from NaNoWriMo!

I love this time of year. I like to write my first drafts fast anyway, but I love the feeling of knowing that so many other people are doing it too. I love reading the forums and seeing how other people are dealing with the month. It gives me an extra boost of motivation to get as much done in those 30 days as I possibly can.

I know a lot of people struggle with how to write so much so quickly. I recently read 2k to 10k: Writing Faster, Writing Better, and Writing More of What You Love by Rachel Aaron. It’s based on her blog post, so you can read that and get the basic gist, but she took that post plus some others she had written and consolidated them into one ebook. It’s only $.99 and I liked having everything right there together for me to read at once. I was working on a book at the time that I read the ebook and using her advice, I was able to increase my daily word count from 1.5k to over 5k. It was a book I was very excited about and really wanted to write, so I enjoyed pushing myself to get more words. If I didn’t have the day job taking up a lot of my time, I may have been able to get to the 10k, but I was happy with 5k a day. We’ll see if I can repeat that for NaNoWriMo!

I’ll be working on the last Swans Landing book during November. I’m really eager to write it. I’ve spent the last few days making my outline and figuring out everything that needs to happen in this book. But I’m also sad because I love these characters and they’ve been with me for almost three years now, so I’ll be sad to write the end of their story. I have a prequel idea in mind that I may write one day, but it’s on the back burner for now.

If you’re participating in NaNoWriMo, good luck!! And feel free to add me as a writing buddy over there.
