Christmas Eve weekly reads

What I’ve read this week leading up to Christmas:

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
This book made me a little teary at times. It’s about a girl who has just lost her older sister whom she adored, and now has to figure out how to live outside of her sister’s shadow. My favorite part of the book was the little notes and poems Lennie writes to Bailey on paper cups or bathroom walls or scraps of paper. I loved how they were shown in the book.

Paranormal Caught on Film by Melvyn Willin
I found this book accidentally shelved in the YA section at the library, as if it were just sitting there waiting for me. I LOVE ghosts and ghost stories, so I had to check it out. I’m really skeptical about some of the photos in this book, but they were still fun to look at.

Reaper by Rachel Vincent
This is a novella and is available for free right now on the Kindle store. (It may be available for free elsewhere too, but I’m not sure.) I had never read anything by this author before, but I’d seen her name mentioned a lot on blogs I read. I enjoyed it and so I’ll most likely check out her other books too. I think offering free novellas or short stories related to your books is a great way for authors to connect with new readers. (Might have to consider that for myself in the future!)

Glimmerglass by Jenna Black
This is the first in the Faeriewalker series, about a girl who thinks that life with her Fae father in Avalon has to be better than life with her alcoholic mother in the human world. But once she gets there, she finds much more than she ever expected. I love all the glittery dots on the cover! I kept moving the book around to see the light shine on them.

Current reads:
I’m still listening to the audiobook of Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I’m reading Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy by Abigail Reynolds (a reimagining of end of Pride and Prejudice) on the Kindle and reading the print version of Once Was Lost by Sara Zarr.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think about them?

I wish everyone a very merry Christmas! 🙂
