Best Movies Ever

I’m trying to do that thing called Spring Cleaning, but I’m really not very fond of cleaning. I mean, I like for things to be clean, I just don’t want to be the one doing the cleaning. But so far my efforts to teach my dogs and cats how to use a broom and mop have failed, so I guess it’s up to me. To keep from overexerting myself, I’m just doing one room a day. Or in some cases, maybe half a room.

Yesterday I Spring Cleaned our bedroom. Since the VCR part of the combo DVD/VCR we have stopped working like two years ago, I decided yesterday that maybe it was time to get rid of the 30 or so video tapes we still own so I could put the overflowing DVDs in their place. The thing is, getting rid of the video tapes means I’m getting rid of some of the BEST MOVIES EVER.

Movies I Own on Video That I Sadly Do Not Currently Own on DVD:

  • Labyrinth – Um, only the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. David Bowie as the Goblin King? Hot. I don’t even find David Bowie very attractive when he’s David Bowie. But when he’s Jareth, I’ll be Sarah and lost in the Labyrinth any day. Thankfully, I did notice that this is available for instant viewing on Netflix, so I can watch it there until I get around to buying a DVD version.
  • Office Space – I introduced The Husband to this movie years ago. He had never seen it and resisted when I tried to get him to watch it just because Jennifer Aniston is in it. As I told him, “It’s not a Jennifer Aniston Movie, it’s a Movie With Jennifer Aniston In It.” Of course, once he watched it he loved it and quotes some of the lines with me. I don’t know why he doesn’t believe me when I tell him something is one of the Best Movies Ever. I had already proved that I know what I’m talking about when I introduced him to The Goonies. You’re welcome!
  • Clueless – I’m surprised that this tape even still works. But the last time I watched it–over two years ago, before the VCR part of the VCR/DVD combo stopped working–it played just fine. I watched this tape a hundred thousand times between the ages of 15 and 17. “Thank you, Josh. I SO need lessons from you on how to be cool. Tell me the part about Kenny G again?”
  • The Pest – I should probably be embarrassed to admit I even own this because it’s a terrible movie. But TERRIBLE HILARIOUS. The part that makes me laugh every time is when Pest is running and falls down this steep hill, tumbling several times until he finally stops after hitting his head on a rock. He jumps back up and says, “Aaahhh, now I’m nice and limber!”
  • The Neverending Story – Just because I always wanted to ride on Falcor and it’s not fair that Bastian got to. 🙁

I tried to think of anyone I know who actually still owns a VCR and could enjoy the Best Movies Ever, but I couldn’t come up with anyone. Even my grandparents have DVD players. So they’ll be going off to Goodwill because there’s gotta be somebody in this town who still has a VCR and has a big emptiness in their movie collection that The Pest will fill.

Clueless was on Netflix Instant Play for awhile but was just recently taken off. Maybe eventually they’ll all be there for you!
