Summer arrived early this year. It’s been 100 degrees for a few days now. I need to ask The Husband if this June is hotter than June 2000, which he claims was the hottest June ever. Just because that was the year we got married. Outside in the early afternoon. So he had to stand in the sun in a black tux and he still claims it was the hottest day ever on record.
But June this year has been pretty hot so far.
We got a new family member this weekend.
Daisy, a five year old basset hound.
Well, hopefully she’ll remain a family member. She snapped and lunged at one of our cats when he walked by while she was eating, although the cats have no interest in the dog food. She hasn’t bothered the cats any other time, just that once while she was eating yesterday. She started playing with our other dog Chloe last night. So maybe things will work out and we won’t have to send her back to my cousin.
Oh yay she is so cute! Love bassets! I still miss our Shirley (http://eirbeare.livejournal.com/159017.html).
And yeah hopefully the snapping was a one time thing because bassets are usually super laid back. Shirley & Ellie actually used to sleep together & be best friends, though Eliie has nothing to do with Norm because he’s too hyper for her standards, lol!
welcome daisy!!!
i think that a little bit of food possessiveness would be normal in that situation. i would try interrupting her while she is eating, making her sit before she starts eating, etc etc. reinforce that you can take away her food and that the cats are higher ranking than she is!!!
but she sure is cute 🙂
