Six degrees (or less) to Sarah Dessen

If you’re in or near Chapel Hill, North Carolina, I have a booksigning coming up two weeks from today!

Bull’s Head Bookshop
UNC-Chapel Hill campus
Main Store, CB# 1530, Daniels Bldg
Wednesday, February 20, 3:30pm

Speaking of Chapel Hill, it’s the home of one of my favorite authors. And on Monday afternoon, The Husband called me just before I left work and said, “You know Sarah Dessen?”

I said, “I know of her, but I don’t know her personally.”

And he goes, “Well, I just met her husband’s grandparents.”

I don’t want to go into full details of where they met because The Husband prefers for me not to talk about him or his family on my blog. But anyway, my father-in-law just randomly started up a conversation with this couple and somehow the subject of my book came up. (Because my father-in-law likes to tell everyone all about my book. He and my grandma are my own built-in marketing team!) So then the couple told The Husband and his parents that their grandson was married to a young adult author. And The Husband said, “That’s what my wife writes too. I wonder if she knows your grandson’s wife?”

And then they revealed that their grandson’s wife is Sarah Dessen. The Husband said he recognized her name because he remembered me talking about her books. The Husband told them that I was a big fan of hers. He said to me, “I just had to call you because I knew you would be jealous.”

Of all the people to come across and start up a random conversation with, it’s just really weird that they managed meet one of my favorite author’s relatives!

Yay…that’s fun. It would be super cool for you guys to do a double signing. I’m not sure if she does them much anymore, or does local ones. But still that would be fun! I love Sarah’s books and am excited for the new one.

That would be cool! I’m not sure if she still does booksignings or not. I’m really looking forward to the new book! I’ve read all of her others!

Wish I could go to the Bull’s Head to meet you! You know who I met in the Bull’s Head once? George Takei. And yes, I was a total fangirl.

It’s great that your family is so supportive and market-y for you!
