My birthday was a couple weeks ago, so The Husband and I went to Florida to visit my family. It’s been years since I’ve celebrated my birthday with them since we live 700 miles apart, but it was really nice to get to spend that day with them this year, especially since it was a milestone birthday for me (30!!).
My mom gave me a Magic Bullet set for my birthday. You know, one of those little blenders they advertise on infomercials? It can chop onions in 3 seconds! Make chicken salad in only 6 seconds!!
What’s with the woman with the bad makeup and cigarette hanging out of her mouth in the infomercial anyway?
Since we got home, I’ve become obsessed with making smoothies in the Magic Bullet now. I have a strawberry and banana smoothie with my breakfast. Strawberries that we picked in May from a local farm (so local it only takes a few minutes to get to from my house), bananas from the store (um, because I have never seen local bananas at the store or farmer’s market), and mixed with some of my homemade yogurt. No added sugar. No artificial flavorings. Just natural yummyness! It’s SO good.
So being 30 hasn’t been too bad. Honestly, most of the time, I don’t feel any older than fifteen. I think that’s why I write about teenagers, because usually I still feel like I am one. The biggest change I’ve noticed is when reading magazines. You know those skincare and beauty advice articles in magazines that tell you the things you should do to protect your skin in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, etc? I’m now bumped up to the 30’s section of those articles, although most of the things they say to do I already have been doing. Wear sunscreen and eye cream, girls. Those are your best friends against wrinkles. And lots of water!
Happy birthday Shana! How funny, I just went back home for my 30th birthday too, lol! I totally agree that there’s an age for each of us that we never really grow up past, even if we keep getting older. I keep waiting for this moment when I feel “grown up” and it keeps not happening. 😉
That Magic Bullet looks awesome! Is it hard to clean?
Ditto the skincare advice. To quote Baz Luhrmann – “If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it.”

It’s not hard to clean at all! The parts that touch the food can go right into the dishwasher. 😀
something to blog about
hey shana i read your book something to blog about and i wonder if that was you oh and yeah seth jacob is so hot….love yourbook
Re: something to blog about
Hi! Libby’s story is an exaggerated version of something that happened to me. Libby is similar to me, but she’s much more loud and outgoing than I am and much more overdramatic about everything. I’m glad you liked it! And yes, Seth is hot, isn’t he? 😉
