I’ve been really bad about keeping up with my regular exercise these last few months. I started walking on the treadmill at least four mornings a week in October 2007. From then until January 2009, I did great. I got up at least 4 mornings each week and got on the treadmill for half an hour. On weekends I’d use the Wii Fit for some yoga and strength training.
Then February came. And February was COLD. And DARK. And sleepy Shana DID NOT want to get out of the nice, warm bed during those cold, dark mornings.
I struggled to make it onto the treadmill just once a week. And now it’s April and I’m still struggling to get up. And I’ve gained a few pounds back. I told The Husband this morning, “I really need to get myself back on the treadmill again.”
Then a few minutes later, he said while looking at my butt, “Are those pants tight enough?”
I flailed my arms and said, “Didn’t you hear me JUST say that I NEED TO GET BACK ON THE TREADMILL AGAIN??”
The thing is, I’m bored. I know I’m bored. I’ve tried changing my usual treadmill routine, but I still can’t find the motivation to get on it. And it makes me sad because I’ve been working out regularly for over a year and I’ve built muscle and I don’t want to lose all of that hard work. But I’m bored bored BORED. I can’t use the Wii Fit before work because the designers of the Wii Fit apparently never noticed how much time is wasted by all those stupid screens they make click through. So I don’t have enough time to get in a good workout before work on it. I’m really interested in this workout game for the Wii Fit, but it doesn’t come out until mid-May and I need something to motivate me now.
Oh man, I hear ya. I do the exercise bike in the AM before work, and in order to NOT get bored, I get off and do jumping jacks and/or squat thrusts every 5-10 minutes. AND I read AND have the TV/radio on while biking. It’s the only way I can do it and not get bored!
I usually read while I’m on my treadmill, but even a half hour of uninterrupted reading time doesn’t seem to be enough to get me past the boredom of the treadmill right now. 🙁 Maybe I need to try your technique and do something else every few minutes!
I’ve read a lot of good things and actually tried out My Fitness Coach for the Wii, and it’s pretty good! I’ve only used it once but it gave me quite a workout. That might be one you’d want to look into too!
I use My Fitness Coach, and it’s great — I feel pretty well worked out when I use it 🙂
I almost bought My Fitness Coach about a month ago. I’ve read a lot of good reviews on it. The only thing that stopped me was that it doesn’t work with the balance board from the Wii Fit. I’m trying to hold out for a game that uses the board to help track my progress (and since I already have it, I’d hate to have it just sitting in the corner unused!). But that’s the only drawback I’ve seen in all the reviews I’ve read.
