Chloe & Me

I watched Marley & Me last night and I’ve come to a conclusion: My dog Chloe MUST be related to Marley.

She started out so innocent. Just look at that face:

Such a cute little sweet puppy face, right?

That face is DECEIVING. While her two identical sisters were busy playing with us and the other couple that had come to the animal shelter to get a puppy, Chloe was sitting all the way in the back of the cage by herself, ignoring everyone and chewing on a toy. We said, “Aw, look at that one playing by herself.” The Husband went into the cage and picked her up and she buried her head under his arm. She looked so scared and timid that we couldn’t bear to leave her there to end up with a family with a ton of rambunctious kids that would terrorize her. On the way home, she kept her head buried and laid there quietly.

Once we got home, we should have known that the shy, scared little puppy was just an act. Once she saw the toys we offered her, she immediately came to life, jumping around, playing tug of war, and barking at everything.

In the past four years, Chloe has chewed up about a hundred tennis balls, two rope toys, four stuffed animals (one of which was not hers), two squeaky toys, six toy mice (for the cats), three socks, one shoe (the day after I bought it!!), seven towels, ten wash cloths, two blankets, countless receipts, eight refrigerator magnets, two bottle caps, three tubes of toothpaste, five toothbrushes, three combs, two razors, one tube of athlete’s foot cream, and an aluminum can. She has also dragged me across the backyard–literally dragged, as in me lying on the grass being pulled by her leash. She licks the food off the plates in the dishwasher whenever I turn my back while loading dishes. She’ll steal food right out of your plate or lap if you don’t watch out. She has been called the world’s worst dog.

But she’s not really. She’s our baby and part of our family that we wouldn’t trade for the best behaved dog in history. When I’m upset, she’s always right there next to me to give me a kiss or hug. She climbs her fifty pound self into my lap to let me baby her. She’s always absolutely thrilled whenever we walk in the door. She loves everybody she meets (except my dad, for some reason. Maybe it’s the mustache…) and she always investigates every strange noise like a good guard dog.

Chloe may not be as well-behaved as some other dogs, but that’s okay. We love her just as she is. And that’s why Marley & Me made me cry and cry, because I could see Chloe and us in the story. Life with Chloe is never dull and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Re: im sorry did you say….

I can’t believe it’s been that long, but yep, she’ll be four in just a few more months! She’s still a baby though. 😉

Hi! Thanks so much for leaving a comment! I’m glad you liked Something to Blog About! 🙂 LOL, your dog sounds like a handful! I have a dog named Daisy too, but she’s pretty well behaved. She just likes to sleep all day, so she doesn’t get into trouble like my dog Chloe. 😉

I had heard from other people that it was really sad, so I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen but I still cried anyway! 🙁
