Revenge of the geek

VOYA‘s June issue has an article about bullies in books and how reading about how characters deal with bullies can help kids dealing with their own bullies. The article highlights a few books featuring bullies and Something to Blog About is included under the cyberbullying section! Yay! You can read the article online here (PDF file so you have to have Acrobat Reader installed).

Angel’s tormenting of Libby was inspired by my own brief experience with a bully. Well, the one bully that sticks out in my mind anyway. Of course, there were those guys that liked to torment other kids all throughout school, but they were so insignificant to me that they don’t even hold a place in my school memories anymore. The one bully incident that sticks with me happened in kindergarten. And the incident that Libby tells about at the beginning of Something to Blog About, describing how Angel’s tormenting of her began, is very much like what happened to me with this bully. Thankfully, my bully moved away during first or second grade and I didn’t have to deal with her anymore. But I never did figure out what made her decide to be mean to me, especially when we had been friends throughout the school year up until that point.

But that story shows why you should never be mean to anyone else. Because they might grow up to become a writer and write about the things you did to them in a book.

And thanks for the mention- this is Book Chic’s regular, mild-mannered alter-ego and his blog, haha. 🙂 It’s much appreciated.
