Just a couple hours after I wrote my post yesterday about not being able to find the Wii Fit, my grandmother called me. I visited her Monday afternoon and had mentioned that we had tried to find it over the weekend but couldn’t.
“Was that thing you wanted called a Wii Fit?” she asked me. “I’m looking at two of them on the shelf right now.”
Of course, I had her grab one for me with my promise that I would pay her back when I went to pick it up after work. So now, the Wii Fit is all mine!
And I LOVE it. I’ve learned that my center of balance is just slightly off to the left. Also, when it calculated my fitness age it asked me if I have a tendency to trip over my own feet. Ha. Um, yes, I do. All the time.
I love the yoga training, although I’m having a hard time staying steady. I really do need to work on my balance. The aerobic exercises are really fun too. I tried out everything except the strength training, which I didn’t get to because my cousin stopped by with her kids to pick up some things I had for her. But I intend to work on the strength training this weekend if I don’t get a chance before then.
I’m not sure that I believe the Wii Fit’s built in scale though. It’s telling me I’m seven pounds less than all the other scales I’ve been on lately–including the one at the doctor’s office. Not that I’m complaining! I’m just not putting too much faith in the number it tells me.

Hmm, I’ve been curious about this. How is it different from an exercise video? Just more enhanced features or what? My husband thought it was funny when I brought up buying one.
The thing I like best is that the Wii Fit board measures your balance during the yoga moves. It has an on-screen guide to show you where your balance is while you’re doing the movements and to help you figure out how to align your body. It’s like having a yoga instructor there with you to make sure you’re doing the poses correctly. The fitness test helps you figure out what you specifically need to work on and you can test your fitness age every day to keep track of how you’re improving over time.
What my husband likes best is that a lot of the workouts don’t really seem like workouts. The aerobic workouts are more like games that you’re playing just for fun. There’s a hula hoop game where you have to move your body in order to keep hula hoops spinning around your Mii and try to catch more hoops as they’re thrown at you. There are skiing and snowboarding games, which are a lot of fun and you’re actually moving as if you were skiing or snowboarding. The step exercises remind me of Dance Dance Revolution because it’s the same type of activity. Most of the games are locked at first though, so you have to earn points by doing the workouts in order to unlock the other games.
This sounds really interesting. I’ve been trying to convince my husband to get one. We have a Wii at the library I use all the time, but everytime we go to the store we can’t find one. But the bonus of a Wii fit might really make me look harder.
Exercise while playing games seems like a perfect fit for me.
It’s a lot of fun! I definitely recommend it. 🙂
My mom amazingly managed to get a Wii while I was visiting her in Florida last month. She had heard that Toys R Us was getting some in one of the days that we were there. She wanted to be there when they opened at 10:00am, but we weren’t able to get there until after 11. We thought they’d be sold out by then, but when I asked the girl in electronics if they still had some, she showed me a huge stack behind the register. I was amazed, LOL. I’d have thought people would be lining up for those things, but we were the only customers there!
Hey, I’ve been looking at those too. But since we already have every OTHER gaming system, I’m not sure I’ll get it (and frankly, I’m not sure I’d really work out, slacker that I am.)

LOL 🙂 We only have one other game system, so it’s not so bad at my house. Wii Fit is a lot of fun though! And it makes me feel like I’m doing something other than wasting all my time playing video games. 😉

That is how many spins your 45 year old mother can do on the hula hoop.:)
Love ya!
Re: 541
