The Husband and I got something this past weekend that we’d been talking about for a while: A Wii! I like saying that, by the way. Wii! Anyway, so now we’ve been having bowling tournaments. We’re not really keeping score, though The Husband says he’s winning.
Like I told The Husband, I like the Wii because it makes me feel like I’m doing something other than just playing video games. I’m up and moving around so it’s good for me, right?
One thing I discovered yesterday that has me really excited is that you can download old Nintendo games to play on the Wii. Which means…Super Mario Brothers! I have a new game console and the only thing I really want to do is play a twenty year old game. But I’m really bad at games and so Super Mario Brothers remains the only one I have ever managed to win. But I have to point out that the game was released in 1985 and I didn’t beat it until 1994. I’m really bad at games. I still haven’t managed to beat my Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire game I got a couple years ago. But at least the Wii lets me move around and have fun while losing.
You can also watch youtube on the Wii. That’s how we’ve been staying current with our favorite overseas shows.
Cool! I didn’t know that yet. Thanks for letting me know! 🙂
You have to download Opera for the Wii. I think it’s via the “Wii Shop” channel but I could be mistaken. Your owners manual should tell you where to look.
I love the Wii. We have Wii Thursdays at the library and I love it. I definitely think it’s exercise some of the games you can play!
Yep, it’s definitely exercise! I was playing the boxing game that comes with the Wii last night and was working up a sweat, lol.
I haven’t tried the boxing what yet, but I used to use my brother’s punching bag all the time growing up for exercise. It was a good workout.
I have emulators of all the Mario games on my computer, and I will play Dr. Mario until the sun comes up. Oh man. Amazing. I also have SNES, but I never got into those games as much.
Awesome! My siblings and I had a SNES that we got secondhand from my cousin, but the only game on it that I ever really played was Super Mario Brothers 2. I always liked playing the princess. 😀
I love Super Mario 2 and 3! I like how the princess can float in Mario 2.
When I first saw this, I read Wii as Will, and wondered… why is she talking about the Mario Bros in her will??? LOL.
We just got DDR, and plan on (sort-of) dancing using our old Game Cube system.
LOL!
Oh, I’ve always wanted to play DDR. The game arcade in the local mall has a DDR machine, but it’s right in front of the doorway, so everyone walking through the mall can see you dancing on it. I’m too embarrassed of looking like an idiot to try it out. 😉
Wii and Mario
Shana, when can I come over and play Mario with you?

Re: Wii and Mario
Come on over! We can have Mario tournaments. 😉
Wheee!
The game I love and miss is Frogger. I remember how awesome it was when my best friend got an Atari and we played those games all summer long. Ahhh….takes me back.
We had an Atari when I was kid–actually, it was my dad’s, but he would let us play sometimes. 😉 We never had Frogger though. 🙁
I LOVE Super mario Brothers. We still have an older nintendo (the kind where you put a cartridge in the top of the console thingee) AND a Sega Genesis. Seriously. We love to play those games! 🙂
Now, my kids have a gamecube. Fun stuff — but they’ve got their eyes on a Wii. Not happening for a while. But it’s nice to know you can download the old Nintendo games. Makes is a bit more affordable in my mind! 🙂

I’ve told my husband before that I wished we could find a working Nintendo and play all those old games again. But I love that the Wii lets you play them on it!
We used to have a Sega Genesis too. I loved the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. 😀
