Marathon writing

I’ve been a member of Forward Motion for several years, which is an online community for writers. They have word count marathons every other weekend and there’s one going on this weekend. I’m aiming for the 10,000 word mark for the marathon, so it’s helping push up my NaNoWriMo word count as well.

I’m also just trying to push myself hard on the weekends because I know I won’t write as much during the week. The Husband usually works weekends, so the house is quiet and I can sit down with my characters for as long as I want without interruption. Well, until the dog stands at my feet and stares unblinking at me, which is her way of saying she needs to go out.

But anyway, that burst of words up there is thanks to the writing I did last night and this morning. I’m going to take a bit of a break for lunch, then probably write a little more, and then go take some soup my mother-in-law made to my grandparents.

And the dog is staring unblinking at me right now, so I’d better get off the computer.

Excellent, Shana! I’m the opposite — during the week I can find time to myself, but the weekends tend to be wild. I’ll have to fight to get in some words today (right now DD is chattering away beside me — no problem for blogging and e-mail, but I can’t write with that).

Thanks! Good luck writing this week! If only I could convince my boss to let me write at work, I’d do great during the week… 😉

    Oh Shana,

10,000 NaNo words by the first weekend? You’re making me look so pathetic! Actually, I think it’s great, so keep up the good work! I bet you could be in that group that writes a novel in a weekend. 🙂 Which is Psycho.

Anyway, I was checking in on you, but I can see you are doing just fine. Now, back to my piddly 1800 words.

1800 words is not piddly! 🙂 I always start out at a fast speed and then get slower toward the end of the month. I like to give myself a big boost right at the beginning before I burn out. I don’t think I could write a whole book in one weekend though! My wrists ache just thinking about it! 😉

      Good luck with your writing!
