HP7 – Spoiler free :)

I finished Deathly Hallows last night after reading half on Saturday and the other half Sunday. My eyes were killing me, but I wanted to get through it before I got back online and accidentally ran across any spoilers. (Now I’m going back and reading some of the [fake] “spoilers” that were posted before the book came out and some of them are hilarious.) I won’t say much about it since I know some people are still reading–I had to hand my copy over to The Husband as soon as I finished last night so he could start and my mom has already told me not to tell her anything because she’s not done yet–but I will say that I loved it. It made me cry and laugh and read faster to find out what was going to happen next.

And as a writer, I’m amazed and proud that all of the anticipation, parties, news reports–all of it was for a book by a children’s writer. Just amazing. Will we ever see anything like that again for a book?

We may see another phenomenon like Harry Potter, but not for another generation or two. Why? Because there are many, many talented writers out there, and the media has the power to hype any well written, fun, and exciting book well past the atmosphere.

I hope so! however, even if we don’t see something quite this big, we still have this and always will 😉

P.S. My eyes were killing me too — I had to get up in the middle of the night and take pain killers for the resulting headache!

Just finished reading it. I hope we have another series with this much emotion, humor and growth in it, one that my children and I both can enjoy and talk about.

I wondered if/how JKR could pull it off, she had a lot to resolve. She did it, she aced it, she closed many circles, re-introduced so many thing. I’m awestruck and can’t remember the last time I cried and laughed so many times in one story. Wow.

    Still reading it!

I’m thinking that Percy Jackson and the Olympians MIGHT be a worthy successor to Harry Potter. The film rights were bought and Chris Columbus, who did the first Potter film is attached, so who knows? They’re great books.
