Cicada Shell Jewelry

A picture of a cicada just out of its shell on another blog I read made me suddenly remember the Cicada Shell Jewelry that was all the rage with my cousin Jonathan when we were kids. The giant oak tree in my grandparents’ backyard was the perfect place to find the shells and Jonathan would attach them to his shirt, wearing them like pins and buttons.

I was always too grossed out to actually touch the shells, even though the bugs were no longer inside them. I mean, they’re still really creepy-looking, aren’t they?

I’ve been scrapbooking some old family photos this weekend, so my thoughts are on the past. It’s been fun remembering these little stories from my childhood. I had almost forgotten about Cicada Shell Jewelry though. I need to find an old picture of Jonathan and me and add the story to my scrapbook.

Eh, I’m not feeling so great today. I feel like I’m getting sick. Which would make perfect sense, following in my tradition of getting a cold only when it’s nearly 100 degrees outside.
