Sad and happy weekend

My weekend was good and bad. Bad because I had to attend my aunt’s funeral. The services were nice and she was buried in the family cemetery that I didn’t even know existed before this weekend, but she was only 43. The older I get, the younger that seems.

But my parents and siblings came up from Florida for the funeral, so I did get to spend the weekend with them. And with this cute little girl:

See how Chloe has her neck stretched forward, but her legs leaned back? She was trying to get a sniff without getting too close. Chloe just didn’t know what to think of my niece. Actually, she was nervous about my entire family. She had never met them before and she’s a big baby, so she was afraid to get too close to them. Sunday morning while I was in the shower, Chloe wouldn’t go into the living room, where my family was sitting. She would stand at my bedroom door, looking at them, and whenever they said anything to her, she’d run farther into my room so they couldn’t see her. Chloe finally did let my brothers and sister and mom rub her, but she would not go near my dad at all. I have no idea why. I even gave him a piece of chicken to try to get her to take it from him, but she refused to come get it.

My cat Elmo loved my dad though. He’s met my dad before and every time, he gets all over my dad and wants him to rub him.

But my family left yesterday afternoon, so they’re back in Florida. The good news is, I get to go visit them again next week. So I get to hold my little niece and kiss her chubby cheeks even more.
