Lots of reading

I took last week off from writing because JENNA has been nothing but trouble. I’m considering starting over and trying to recapture the voice, but decided to just take a break before doing anything drastic.

So in the last week I’ve been working away at my To Read list. My list is still really long, but since January 1 I finished ttfn by Lauren Myracle, Princess on the Brink and Sweet Sixteen Princess by Meg Cabot, I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You by Ally Carter, Just Listen by Sarah Dessen, and Looking For Alaska by John Green. I don’t usually read that many books in one week, but they were all so good that I couldn’t put them down. Right now I’m reading All American Girl by Meg Cabot. I read the sequel Ready or Not last year, but I wasn’t ever able to find the first one at the library until now. Every time I checked the online catalog for a year and a half it was marked as “Checked Out, Overdue.” Now if the person who has had Teen Idol for the last year would bring that back I’d be even happier.

I also picked up Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak to read after All American Girl. I always set a goal of reading 50 books each year. In 2005 I did 75, but only 47 in 2006. I’ve noticed that I tend to read more at the beginning of the year than I do at the end so right now I’m at the beginning of my heavy reading cycle.

My local library is going through renovations right now so it’s kind of a pain to go there because there’s nowhere to park, thanks to the construction guys parking their big trucks and piles of bricks everywhere. I read somewhere that when the renovations are done, the young adult section is going to be expanded. Which will be so great because right now, the YA section is just a few shelves at the end of the adult fiction section.

I always feel kind of silly reading young adult books but I love them. My favorite book of all time is Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. I have the little stick figure girl tattooed on my hip, that’s how much I love it.

I think I might be a dork, but I’m glad you’re the same way 🙂

I sometimes think someone is going to look at me standing in the YA section and exclaim, “YOU’RE NOT A YOUNG ADULT!!” But YA books are just so much better than the adult books. 😉

I tried to find Stargirl at the library because I’ve heard other people talk about it. My library says they have two copies of it and they’re available, but I couldn’t find even one. :\

People tell me I read fast. I don’t usually think so, especially when I’m working through a 600 page fantasy LOL, but I can usually get through one of Meg Cabot’s books in one day.

But I still sometimes wish I could read even faster so I can get through all the books on my To Read list! 😉

Thanks, I would love to borrow it if you don’t mind. The Ally Carter book was REALLY good! The story is so much fun and it’s really funny in some parts. I bought it, so if you want to borrow it I can send it to you. 🙂
