Thank you all for the congrats!! I was so excited last night that I completely forgot to mention LIBBY’s release date! It’s planned for a Spring 2008 release. No details yet on the second book.
I got only four hours of sleep last night because my brain would not settle down, heh.
Hi Shana, I congratulated you at Verla’s but decided to hop over to your lj and congratulate you “in person.” LIBBY sounds like the kind of book I would like to read!
I was wondering about your two book deal and how that works. Is your second book finished? How does an agent go about marketing a second book?

Right now, we don’t know what the second book will be. The editor read LIBBY and took that to the rest of the team at Amulet, and they decided to buy two based on reading only LIBBY. I do have other books already written, if they decide they want one of those, but it’s possible the book could be something entirely new (maybe a sequel to LIBBY?? I’d love to do one if the publisher is open to it!).
From what I’ve read, if the publisher thinks your first book will do well enough, they might offer a two book deal based only on the first one, but we didn’t set out saying that was what we wanted when we pitched LIBBY. I was not expecting a two book deal at all, although I’m thrilled about it! ;D So as of right now, the second one is known as “Untitled Second Book” until we decide what it will be.
Well, your writing is obviously amazing. I look forward to LIBBY as well as UNTITLED. ; )
