NC Bookwatch

I just finished my rewrite of EMMA a few minutes ago. I meant to go to bed earlier, but I got on a roll and couldn’t stop and I was already near the end anyway so I kept going until it was done. This new version will, of course, need some more work, but I already like this version much more than the original. My main character Emma is much more of an imperfect character. She was too good in the original and it always bothered me because I could see how obvious it was that she didn’t have many flaws. But I changed so many things in this version, threw new problems into the mix, gave Emma other personal faults, and it worked out much better.

UNC-TV, the North Carolina PBS station, has a show called North Carolina Bookwatch, which does interviews with authors living in NC. Sarah Dessen was on a few months ago, but I forgot to watch when it originally aired. The episode repeated again either last week or the week before, but again, I forgot to watch. So today I happened to think that maybe the episode was on their website. I checked and yes, it was. I wanted to post a link for people who don’t live here in NC or who didn’t get a chance to watch it when it aired because I thought it was a great interview. She talks about her recent book, Just Listen, but she also talks about teens and writing for teens.

So, for anyone interested, you can watch the program here. (You’ll need Real Player installed on your computer.)

(And yes, my dream is to be on North Carolina Bookwatch one day, hee. The husband teases me about it.)
