I like doing NaNoWriMo and getting that push to get a story out of my head in 30 days, but this is the time during November when I start feeling like I need a break. The story is going really well and I’m past 36,000 words (just barely–36,086). But at this time each November that I do NaNo (I didn’t do it in 2005, but I did 2001-2004), my brain gets a bit fuzzy.
Of course, I didn’t make things easier on myself this weekend and take a break from the NaNo book to focus only on revisions for LIBBY, which would have been the smart thing to do. I figured, it only takes me an hour to get the 1667 words a day that I need so I can knock that hour out first thing in the morning and then spend the rest of the time on LIBBY. And I did get the writing goal each day and got the revisions done, but my brain is fuzzier than normal today.
(It doesn’t always take me only an hour to get 1667 words. Some days are a struggle and it takes longer, but usually once I get past the halfway point in a story the words come easier.)
I’m actually a very impatient person and like pushing myself to get things finished fast so it will be over as soon as possible. Whenever I get the urge to knit, I’ll do about a week or two of constant knitting. By the end of that time if the project isn’t done, I lose interest and stop working on it. NaNoWriMo feeds that part of me that likes things done quickly. But I do get fuzzy headed from it. Thankfully, there are only ten days left in November and I only need 14K more to reach 50,000, so it’ll all be over soon. I don’t know yet how many words it’ll take to finish the story, but by 50K I should be very close to the end if not there already. I think if I’m not done with the story after November 30 I’ll take a few days of not writing to let the fuzziness clear up before I finish the last bits.
that is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good for you for ploughing through, though! i had internet probs today, and although i wrote some, I had to stop and fix the internet so i could do some research (that was my excuse, anyway) 😉
