NaNoWriMo

I’ve been hesitant to say I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year. I did it in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. I completed the 50,000 words every year except 2004. I ran out of steam that year. (And also, my constant Sims playing probably didn’t help…) I didn’t even attempt it last year because I had just finished marathon writing a book a few days before November 1 and needed a break before I could even think about doing it again.

But this year I’ve been reading and posting in the NaNo forums. Sketching out one of the ideas from my idea book. Doing the necessary research needed for this story. Choosing character names. All of that but still I wouldn’t admit to myself that I was actually doing NaNoWriMo this year.

Today I finished plotting out my outline for the story. This is big because I’m not an outline person. The only book I have completed that I did outline first was GIRLFRIEND (old working title, the book is still officially untitled) and the outline was kind of a struggle to write, but I needed it to get my thoughts organized. But this book, the one I’m doing for NaNo, has a full, completed outline. I know exactly what is going to happen in this book. I’m still excited to write it even after getting the outline done. I love the characters. I love the story.

So I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year. Unless my world suddenly explodes on October 31. (But if it does I’ll still write as much as I can during November and continue after then.)

Ohhh, I love when that happens — when all the pieces fo the puzzle are just floating in your head, waiting for you to put them on the page…ahhh. That’s how my recent wip went, and I finished it (should be today) in exactly 2 weeks and one day. Well, as finished as these things ever are….
