Extra cheese

Entertainment Weekly has a feature on their website about bad movies that their staffers love. I have to admit that I agree with them on Don’t Tell Mom the Baby-Sitter’s Dead, A Knight’s Tale, Sweet November, A Night at the Roxbury, and A Walk to Remember.

Actually, I like a lot of cheesy movies. I know they’re cheesy, but I don’t have to think too much while watching them. I can just sit back and enjoy and that’s why I like them.

Some of my favorite cheesy movies:

  • Teen Wolf – Come on, it’s a classic!
  • Howard the Duck – Who wouldn’t like a large, talking duck?
  • North – Elijah Wood before he was Frodo and back when I had an early teen crush on him.
  • The Baby-Sitters Club Movie – I am still a huge fan of the Baby-Sitters Club books and I love the movie although it’s the cheesiest of the cheesy.
  • Super Mario Brothers – I so wanted to be the princess after seeing this movie.
  • National Lampoon’s Vacation, Christmas Vacation, European Vacation, and Vegas Vacation – I love the Griswalds! I always wanted to be a part of their family and have crazy vacations too.
  • RocketMan – The Husband and I can’t stop laughing during this.
  • Hook – Apparently this is cheesy, according to what other people have told me when I mention it. I’ve never thought so. I love this movie and have seen it more times than I can count.
  • The Mighty Ducks (1-2) – I used to watch these all the time. I wore out the first Mighty Ducks video with repeat viewings.
  • The Goonies – Can you believe some people actually say The Goonies is cheesy? I guess it is, but I love it so much. The Husband bought me this movie on DVD because I would talk about it and reference it so often. I love to watch it when I’m feeling bad. Chunk is my favorite character and I love the part when he’s confessing every bad thing he’s ever done to the Fratellis. This is at the top of my list of Best Movies Ever.

But my biggest “I’m so ashamed to admit I like this” moment comes from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movies. Passport to Paris, The Challenge, Holiday in the Sun, Getting There…etc. Thanks to my cousin’s former Olsen obsession I’ve seen them all. If you sat me down in front of a TV playing MKA movies all day right now, chances are I’d probably sit there all day watching them. I am so ashamed, but I will still watch them anyway if I catch them on TV.

A Knight’s Tale is one of my favorite movies–I love the characterizations of William’s friends, esp. Chaucer…I have loved Paul Bettany ever since but he’s never been in a movie I liked again.

I also love Hook…I never thought of it as cheesy, either…
