Revisions and birthdays

I’m nearing the end in my first pass through the LIBBY revisions. My first pass is all the major work, adding and deleting scenes, changing certain plot points, expanding character relationships, etc. My second pass will be for grammar, consistency, and making sure it all fits together nicely.

I’ve been working on the same chapter the last two days, but it’s entirely new stuff. Well, there is a bit of dialogue I was able to salvage from the old draft but the events in this chapter are completely new. This chapter was one of the specific changes that was asked for and is one of the major scenes of the book. Today I passed my word count from the original version. The version my agent and the editors read was just over 44,000 words. Right now I have broken 45,000. And I still have…thinking…three chapters to go? Once I finish this chapter that is. I’m still not quite done with it, but almost!

So the revision is going well. I doubt myself sometimes about the changes I’ve made, but most of the time I’m happy with how it’s turning out. I just hope everyone who reads it after I’m done likes this new version!

Today is my husband’s birthday. I’m putting aside the book for the rest of the day. I will be baking him a cake tonight and trying once again to get my dog to bark to the tune of “Happy Birthday” though I’m pretty sure I’ll be more successful with the cake than with the dog.

I’m almost done with my first pass revision, too on the hopefully new and improved Magic Under Glass…mine is also turning out longer…and I’m not sure I’ve really gotten it quite right yet. Hope it continues to go well for you.

Sorry to hear about your aunt, Shana.

Glad you did get some good news to balance — I suppose that’s what life’s all about…up and down.

    HUGS!

Wow, your library has good movies at their sales. Too bad for the books, but movies are always fun!!
