Does anyone else make up soundtracks for their books? I love doing it. I have lists of soundtracks for each of the books I work on, which I build upon during the writing. It usually helps me keep to the mood of that particular book if I listen to those songs while writing. I have a list of the songs on GIRLFRIEND’s soundtrack here, but I don’t think I have any of the others written out on this journal.
Anyway, this post does have a point! I had been having a hard time with JENNA’s soundtrack, with finding the songs that fit the story. The other day as I drove to work I was listening to a mix CD I had made and “Not Myself” by John Mayer started playing. Suddenly I exclaimed out loud to no one, “This is Jenna’s song!”
It was this that had grabbed me: “Would you want me when I’m not myself? Wait it out while I am someone else?”
That is exactly what I want to convey in Jenna’s story, her search for herself. She’s cast out of the life she’s always known and is forced to reexamine her entire being.
I always have that one song on the soundtrack that is my theme song for the book, the one that provides the tone for the main storyline. “Not Myself” is definitely JENNA’s.
Also, I need to remember not to wear three inch heels when I’m tired. I got about four hours of sleep last night thanks to my dog waking me up and my not being able to fall back to sleep. I’ve been stumbling around all day in my shoes because I can’t keep my balance when I’m sleep deprived.

I posted all my soundtracks sometime back… They’re very helpful sometimes–they can put me right into the proper mood. I don’t have one for Magic Under Glass, and I wish I did, because I am just frittering the day away…
I like your Girlfriend soundtrack!
I plan on making a soundtrack for my next WIP
