My neighbors have cut me off from the outside world! They’ve been doing work in and outside of their house for the last couple of months. Yesterday there was a backhoe digging up their driveway. Well, the phone lines run down through the end of the driveways, which we know from when our house was being built.
Now we have no phone or DSL service at my house.
My house apparently has cell signal deflecting powers because you cannot use a cell phone inside the house. Well, actually, you can get wrong numbers on your cell phone inside the house. But if there is someone you want to talk to that is trying to call you or you are trying to call them on the cell, you’re out of luck. So I had to stand in the middle of my backyard yesterday and call the phone company to tell them that I think the guys working at my neighbors’ house cut my phone line.
The woman I spoke to put in the help ticket and said, “Someone will be out there to check it out between now (6:30pm) and…4:00pm tomorrow.” Don’t you love how they narrow it down for you?
I knew no one would be repairing it last night, though I did check the phone line before I went to bed last night. And then again this morning. Still completely dead.
You don’t realize how addicted you are to the internet until you can’t use it. I kept wanting to check my email at various times last night and then remembered with sadness that I can’t.
The one good thing that came out of this is that the woman at the phone company told me that there was an upgrade on my DSL service available if I wanted it. A connection twice as fast as what I had for less than what I had been paying for the slower one. That was a no-brainer. So I guess in one way it was good that my neighbors cut my phone line. And I actually managed to get some things done around the house before I had to leave for work this morning since I couldn’t park myself in front of the computer to check my email obsessively.
Oh no! Sorry you had to go through that, but I’m glad you have a faster internet connection now.
Welcome back online! E-mail and LJ are so addicting that you go through withdrawal when forced offline!
I never think I’m addicted to the internet–until I don’t have access to it. Then I walk around feeling kind of lost! 😉
Too bad, Shana…hope things get fixed up quickly today — on the earlier side so you can get more done 🙂
Thanks! The phone company put in a temporary line for us so we have phone and internet service again. They say they’ll be back sometime in the next couple of weeks to bury it, for now I keep tripping over it whenever I walk my dog in the dark. 😉
