After not writing the last two days, I did manage to get two and a half pages today in JENNA (working title, still don’t have an actual title). I know where I need to go, but I’ve hit a spot where the words are hard to get out. I’ve also introduced a new character that I didn’t realize I needed until now and slightly changed how one of the subplots will end thanks to this new character. I think it will work out much better than my original intentions.
I was looking through this last night. I love this book. It’s a 1919 edition of Dante’s Inferno that I found in an antique store during my honeymoon six years ago. I have no idea if it’s even worth anything, and I only paid a dollar for it anyway, but what I love most about it is what you can see in this photo. The previous owner wrote notes or underlined sentences all through the book. The writing at the top corner in this photo says, “The form of wickedness that is most hated in heaven is that which injures others.” There are also a few flowers such as this one pressed between the pages.
There is a name at the front of the book, but the writing is kind of hard to read. I think it says “Lora H. Cherver, Shelf 17 Assembly Room.” I have no idea who she is or when she had the book, but I love reading her notations and seeing the things she left behind. When did she receive these flowers? Did she find them herself or did someone special give them to her? What made her underline the sentences she did?
Now I’m off to find some chocolate while I ponder those questions. My reward for having a nice light lunch of garden salad is to absolutely ruin my good behavior with chocolate. When you do something good for yourself, you deserve a reward.
LOL! sounds like me 🙂 When I was in Hay-on-Wye many years ago, I found a number of wonderful old books like yours…books, books, books — I took a whole other bag with me, jammed into my backpack, just for the books I knew I’d buy….
Very cool discovery. I love the flower pressings…this has a plot to it, don’t ya think!!

What a find. Maybe some day you will find her.
