I have decided to start taping all important items directly to my body. This will prevent me from losing anything else. Last week, I lost my debit card IN MY HOUSE. (It’s already been deactivated, so sorry, there’s no point in coming to look for it.) This week, I can’t find my notes for Libby’s book. They were character details, notes on things to change or add in, and other ideas. I last had them this summer. July specifically, but now I have no idea where they are. They aren’t with the other book writing notes in my computer room. They have apparently vanished, probably sitting next to wherever my debit card ran off to.
So now I’m rewriting my notes because I like to look at a sheet and easily see what color a certain character’s eyes are. I once used a free program called QuickPlot to store my outlines. Then my computer crashed and I never reinstalled QuickPlot, figuring I could get it later when I needed it. I decided to used QuickPlot to organize my character and idea notes, so I type quickplot into Google and find some pages. But QuickPlot isn’t available for download anymore. The company that made it took it off their site.
Luckily, I found something that works exactly the same as QuickPlot did. It’s called TreePad. The lite version is free, but there are fuller versions for sale if you want more features. I can make a nice little tree with these categories:
- Ideas
- Setting
- Major Characters
- Minor Characters
- Outline
That’s all I have right now, but maybe I’ll add more on a future project. In these categories, I make more little branches, such as for each major character, and then those each contain my notes and details.
All nice and organized. And I store the file on the same disks that I store copies of my books, so hopefully I won’t lose these notes!
